Double Rolling/Sliding Doors (and Triple, Too)
If you have an extra wide space or just don’t have space to slide a full-sized door to one side of the doorway, you can split the difference and use two (or more) doors instead!

Karah from The Space Between upcycled old french doors into a gorgeous statement for her master bath, and she hung them using easy-to-install premade hardware.
You can get a similar look following this building plan for these doors we found on Better Homes and Gardens.
The Turquoise Home built two extra-large rolling barn doors to cover a large opening:
But Pretty Providence just used one extra-wide barn door, almost like a moveable wall!
And My Repurposed Life built a set of doors and then hung them using tractor supply hardware:
If you don’t have space for a full door, you can try a bypass door system like Inspired By Charm — just be sure you have a wide opening to begin with, since you’ll be blocking half the door way even with the door all the way “open”
Wilkerdos has a very detailed tutorial for not just making the barn doors (single or double), but also hanging them on a DIY rail system — plus lots of tips!

Addicted2Decorating had a long wall for double doors, so she created an extra long rail using pipe to carry her doors which she made by adding glass to plain doors (inspired by the Bellagio!)
Need more than 2 doors? Use a layered closet track system and barn door setup for triple doors like Build Sew Reap — all 3 doors can slide to one side, giving better access to the pantry.
Or you can put bypass closet door tracks to good use and have FOUR doors (on two tracks) to cover a large span of a closet, too (via Lynne Knowlton).

Love this and your ideas! We have a sliding glass door leading to a back porch and are planning to make barn doors instead of drapes in front of it, what would we need for hardware for one to slide behind the other?
Thanks, Teri! Yes, to have a set of doors slide behind one another, you’ll need to have two sets of hardware/rails. Wonderful article! We are remodeling a little Charlestonian cottage and need to separate and long open room into two rooms. We want to add three 6′ high x 4′ wide sliding barn doors, yet need them to be on a ceiling mount system. And we need to drop them / keep a 12″ distance from the ceiling for added ventilation. Any ideas!?
* I found only one ceiling mount system online, but costs more than a $1000 per door! More than we want to spend.

I really like the idea of a barn door. I would like to make one for a screen door. I have a single open french door going into my backyard and it does not have a screen. Any ideas are helpful. Thanks.
I have an existing door I’d like to take off and then use on the same door as a barn door. Is there a way to do this, or will the door just be too short? I love the existing door, just may be short if we hang it. Ideas?

We are trying to build a large (10ft) screen barn door for our new screened in porch. The problem we see is how to completely bug-proof the door. Any suggestions?

I could not afford the $300-500 For just one set of hardware. When using the pipe and hooks do you need to lubricate it to help it move smoothly?
I haven’t used that technique personally, but I imagine a little lubrication would be helpful. You could ask Jaime over at That’s My Letter (included here in the roundup), she’s wonderful and I bet she could give you some more info.

When the door slides into place, do you have some kind of way to slide or push the door into its original spot to lock it?
