How to Decorate with Winter Whites

Hello! I’m Sarah back with another monthly mood board! Last month I dove into warm brown tones and shared some inspiration for fall decorating. Today, as the winter season is upon us, I am going to share my love of decorating with crisp winter whites and soft neutrals.

Not too long ago, decorating with whites was strictly reserved for the modernists. It was regarded as having a cold and bare feeling with little or no warmth…almost clinical. But over the last few years, white rooms have been transformed with layers of different neutrals to create a very warm and inviting space! Lets take a look at some great rooms with soft whites and neutrals done right.

Theres not a cold or clinical thing about these spaces. Are you ready to learn how to winterize your space with whites and neutrals?! Here’s my top 3 tips on decorating with these tones as well as a pretty mood board to feast your eyes upon.

1. TEXTURE. In case you didn’t notice my ramblings about texture in the photo captions, TEXTURE is the key to having a warm, neutral space. Natural woods, faux firs and soft fabrics are a great way to add texture to your space. Also try concrete, marble and leather to add visual interest.

2. METALS. Mixed metals are all the rage, and white rooms are the place to use them! Warm brass mixed with a mirrored surface or shiny gold accents all add interest and a touch of sparkle. And yes…metallics are considered neutrals!

3. VARYING TONES. Vary your tones of white. Mix bright whites with soft creams,  pale grays and creamy taupes. And don’t forget to add a dash of contrast with dark browns or charcoal grays!

  2. I love decorating with shades of white mixed with light grey and now adding in whitewashed wood and even beige sofas. We’re currently working on our family room with this color palette and it’s feeling so warm and inviting. I love that if I feel the need to add color, I can easily grab throw pillows, toss blankets or even colorful objects.
