Beautiful Open Staircase Reveal
Beautiful Open Staircase Reveal
We finished the floors two days before Easter.
Oh yeah – down to the wire and stressing out about having a floor to walk on for all the people coming to the house for Easter.
That’s how we roll….
Just to give perspective, here are a few before pictures.
The dining room looking into the entry hall and the sitting room beyond.
The other side of the wall. The sitting room looking into entry hall.
Nice and open now….The stairs are rebuilt (here, here and here the dreaded floor is being installed.
And FINALLY….drum roll please…..
AFTER!!
The stairs – looking in the front door.
And Baxter Boy makes an appearance….the dogs were never far from theconstruction.
The sitting room looking into the entry hall and dining room. Notice the lack of wall – ha!
And Chauncey – the wonder dog.
Dining room looking into the entry hall and sitting room
Dining room looking through the pocket doors into the family room.
The sitting room.
I still need to finish the furniture, change the light fixture and hang pictures.
The little green chair belonged to my great-great Aunt Pearl. Love it.
I love how cozy this room is at night…..
The entry hall. Still need a little table for under the mirror.
So, there you have it. Whew!
Now I have a lot of furniture to refinish.Which is good because Brian told me that if I start another project, he’s sooooo outta here.I’ll give him until the fall before I start something else – ha!
This absolutely took my breath away! If you loved this too, you’ll also love these!

Hi–Were any of those walls load-bearing walls–by chance?
Thanks!
Gorgeous!!
What is the brand/color of paint in your entry way? I’d love that for my living room. 🙂
Hi Lisa,
This is a guest post from a couple of years ago, so I don’t know the paint color but you can click over to her blog (linked at the top of the post) and ask there. Thanks!
How much did this renovation cost?
Hi Michelle! This is a guest post from a few years back, so I’m afraid I don’t know the answer to your question. But you can click the link to the original author’s blog (toward the top of the post) and ask there. Thanks!
Hi,
I’ve been searching the Earth for before and after photos and details of how to change boxed stringer stairs into open stairs. By that I mean the treads and risers are between the stringers. Our bottom four stairs, on one side, are not enclosed by a wall but they are enclosed by the actual stringers. A cheesy little partition wall slopes down adjacent to to the stringer. I’d like to cut the stringer, remove the cheesy wall and extend the bottom four stairs. Has anyone seen this or know how it’s done, while properly supporting the stairs?
Thank you all very much!
Hi Robert,
If you’ll send us your question and a couple of photos on Facebook, we’d be happy to post for our readers there to share their expertise and experiences.
